- Conquered Christian settlements (they used this to develop their religion further)
- Charlemagne and Byzantine Empire’s
- Traveled South through Russian rivers
- Later sailed to Constantinople
- Varangians were the eastern equivalent of the vikings
- Had their own empire
- Lived where russia and ukraine currently are
III. Life
- Life for Merchants
- Sailed day and night
- Long boats with oars and sail
- Sailing brought religion and spread culture (and vice versa)
- Family
- Grandparents lived with entire family (extended family)
- Skalds would tell stories to everyone.
- Houses
- Houses were long one room huts
- Had one hole in ceiling for smoke from central fire/cooking area.

- By sailing spread culture and religion
- Sailed many places in the world, Russia, England, Greenland, most European and northern Atlantic countries
- From all of these places picked up bits and pieces for a better culture and religion
